Strategic reorientation of pharmaceutical care at large mhc addiction care institution
By commission of a large MHC addiction care institution, one of GPP Support’s partners advised the Board and medical staff in a strategic reorientation of the pharmaceutical care and methadone provision.
Aim
The aim was to develop a new model for responsible and affordable pharmaceutical care and methadone provision. The MHC addiction institution has a broad patient population. A major condition was that the new model should also be suitable for the entire group of patients.
Approach
Based on thorough research into the wishes for and the deficiencies of the present pharmaceutical care, we:
- suggested and tested alternative models for feasibility and financial consequences
- made proposals to arrive at a suitable (responsible and affordable) pharmaceutical care system for the broad patient population
Result
Our advice led to a structured transition to a new model of affordable and responsible pharmaceutical care based on an in-house specialised pharmacy.
